In 2014, London Borough of Newham refurbished 46 Clova Road as a children’s contact centre as part of their social care programme

Newham London

The Challenge

46 Clova Road was bequeathed to the London Borough of Newham by a previous owner. She had stipulated in her will that the property must be used for children’s services. After a period of being used for this purpose, for many years it was left empty, derelict and squatters moved in. However, in 2014 the council set about reinstating it for its original purpose.

The Solution

In addition to a complete rewire of the property, DSA Electrical recommended a change in lighting layout and installing LED lighting, providing excellent energy savings and improved light distribution. Emergency lighting was installed throughout the building, as well as an addressable fire alarm system, data cabling and CCTV and door entry systems.

The Outcome

The new electrical fixtures and fittings delivered outstanding energy savings and improved efficiency for London Borough of Newham. The improved lighting created a healthier environment for building users, and the vastly improved security systems ensured the safety of staff and children – essential for the building to fulfil its intended role in delivering vital children’s services.
