After so much rain, the sun finally shone for DSA Electrical’s Electrical Safety Seminar 2020 which this year was held at the stunning Braxted Park Estate near Witham in Essex on Friday 6th March. The annual seminar is an opportunity for DSA Electrical clients to hear the latest regulatory updates from industry experts, meet our suppliers, network with peers from a range of sectors and enjoy a buffet lunch. This year’s seminar was generously sponsored by Electrium, D-Line, Robus, Entrotec, Greenacre Recruitment, Rolec EV and Medlock Electrical Distributors.
The venue this year was fitting, having once been the headquarters of the Plessey Company – an international electronics, defence and telecommunications company, and comfortably accommodated the growing number of annual delegates.
Attendees were treated to several updates from the brilliantly engaging Darren Stanniforth, Group Senior Technical Presenter and Jake Green, Marketing Technical Presenter of Certsure LLP. Darren and Jake provided invaluable information and insights into Fire safety update changes to BS 5839 Part 6, responsibilities of landlords within the private and social rented sectors, Amendment 1 to the wiring regulations for the UK and understanding electrical certificates.
Other speakers included Paul Ruddick, Managing Director of D-Line (Europe) Ltd who presented on innovative cable management solutions; Derek Gearing, Business Development Manager of Wylex who shared technology updates to consumer units and AFDDs; and Harry Phillips, Technical Sales Executive for Entrotec who presented Secured by Design, showcasing Entrotec’s entry systems.
The presentations were wrapped up with a talk from DSA Electrical’s Managing Director, Rachel Richards who shared some business updates and the company’s values and philosophy. Rachel commented: “Part of the DSA Difference is we believe in giving back, which is why we like to offer events such as these free of charge to clients so we can share our knowledge and experience. We genuinely care about our clients so we believe in building long term partnerships.”
The afternoon closed with a business card raffle where prizes included a golf day at Braxted Park Estate, a crate of beer, chocolates and champagne.
This year, instead of receiving the usual promotional corporate gifts, delegates were presented with a sapling each from the Woodland Trust. As Rachel explained: “DSA Electrical are ISO: 14001 (Environmental) accredited and we don’t work hard to achieve these accreditations just for lip service or to tick a box. We genuinely believe in the principles behind them. So instead of handing out some promotional plastic, we are giving everyone a gift for themselves, for future generations and for the environment.”
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive with 100% of those that completed the feedback questionnaire saying they enjoyed the event, 100% saying it was useful or very useful and 100% agreeing that the speakers were highly skilled. General comments included:
“Excellent! Look forward to next time.”
“Thank you – Great afternoon.”
“DSA are a pleasure to work with, and never fail to deliver.”
“Well organised. Good food. Interesting subjects.”
